Passage is a narrative-driven 2.5D puzzle/platformer where you play as the Ferryman, tasked with collecting the souls of the damned. To succeed, you must possess these souls to gain their abilities and overcome the puzzles and challenges that lie beneath the River of the Undead.
The game was a final year university project developed with a team of 5 in just under 4 months. My role in the team was the environment artist. This involved creating concept art, setting the visual direction and art style of the project, creating background assets, level decoration, and implementation of my assets.
All the assets I made were hand painted using Photoshop. I used a set of five values when painting assets: a base colour, two darker values for shadows and detailing, and a slightly lighter and slightly darker value than the base colour to add texture. This approach was used both for visual style and time limitations, painting in greyscale was faster than using colour and is more versatile.
